New SAAB logo and visual identity

NEVS has unveiled a new SAAB logo and parts of the visual identity. It was made public through a press release on the current NEVS website.

Also there is a new website coming, saabcars.com, which currently shows part of the visuals and will be updated soon.

So what's new :

The SAAB logo. It will be used on certain product parts including wheel hub covers and bonnet. The color will be silver against a white circular background. Right now we see a grey logo, reminding on the classic 900 logo. The wording stays, the font as well.

The visuals. There will be different visuals for the four seasons and respective road conditions. Right now it's winter in Sweden, so there is a snowy visual combined with Aurora borealis.

Also the NEVS logo is new. Similar to the SAAB logo, only the name NEVS in a nicely chosen and a sans serif font is the whole logo.

The design made by Stockholm Design Lab AB reminds on the older visuals of SAAB. The griffin as well as the aircraft parts are missing in the logo. The website visuals is too fresh and not complete to comment, but the trend is to see - very modern and kind of minimalistic. Actually in comparison with the current NEVS site it looks much better. Several levels better.

Things are moving. Hopely in the right direction. Under the given circumstances.

edit : reader Martin pointed out, that the logo is simillar to the Saab 99 logo and sent a nice photo :

... and the new logo reminds a bit on this 96 emblem on the C- pillar. It's a different font but the appearance is there :

Saab 9-3 convertible : Drop top gorgeous

I've found a series of advertisements (I suppose) which seem to be a bit hidden from what circulates around the internet nowadays. A smart idea of incorporating the Saab 9-3 Convertible into hints how to spend some time in 4 cities in a stylish manner. It appeared in Sunday Times in July 2011.

In spite it is the same newspaper involved into the phone hacking scandal, this has nothing to do with it. It's just an advertisement.

Here are the links : Edinburgh (just a start), Brigton, York and London.

Have everyday a different ceiling

Great, until now undiscovered ad. Is it official or fan work ? Anyway, this is what convertibles are about.

Peter Peter Hughes - Fangio, poster and video.

A very nice poster, related to the album Fangio from Peter Peter Hughes, released in 2010. It is also related to this picture. Everything is around a 900 classic.

There is also a videoclip of a track from the album available. Here we go :

Artefacts

They are just marketing things, but for many they are things of big value. These small artefacts will remember on one of the Saabs eras. The first answer of the question "which eras" is "unsuccessful". But also in this era Saab has built great cars,  which are loved by many owners including myself. And brought new Saab lovers. Shot in a coffee break, here are two of mine artefacts.

Heavy products arrived

I waited for some time for two new things, the first is really nice to have, the second is necessary.

Firstly the book Saab 99 and 900, The Complete story. The content seems to be after a short time spent with it a very interested reading. For sure a good gift for a Saab enthusiast. Bought on Amazon.

Secondly my front break discs need to be changed. They have 90.000 km and on one of the recent drives I've got a small stone between the disc and the pad, which carved a circle into the disc and disappeared. The pad is OK, but the disc is gone. Bought at Neobrothers.

It's a real heavy product, which our two cats had to test out. So both tried what a sleep on Saab brake discs tastes like. As everything new at home and as always a small check out for some minutes. Afterwards most of the new artefacts are being ignored. Especially the static ones.

Lost and found

When too many t-shirts are in the wardrobe, some of them tend to dissapear for a while in order to appear again. Always a nice surprise afterwards :) This happened with my white Saab t-shirt. So here it is. Yay I like this one a lot.

Saab in movies : Wrong by Quentin Dupieux

A very nice yellow Saab 900 classic appears in the new movie from the french electronic musician and director Quentin Dupieux called Wrong. The movie is mostly for club cinemas and I cannot wait to see it, not only for the Saab. One of his previous movies Rubber was great :)

If this is the Monte Carlo Yellow very popular on classic 900 convertibles, like this. It could be, so if you know it for sure, the discussion below the blog post is the best place to confirm for the others.

Saab news from 1960

A link to a very nice retro news film from the 60's came appeared in some of the forums. It's called Aktuellt om Saab (1960) and is in swedish. You can find the original here.

It has ~16 minutes and a first part is about the aviation part of Saab. For those interested in the cars, it seems, that someone cutted out the corresponding part and uploaded to youtube.

It's a wonderful piece of industrial history, about producing and testing of Saab 96. At that time Saab produced 30.000 cars per year. What we would give now for that production number ...

The Saab fellowship

In many countries Saab drivers greet each other on the road. They blink, they wave, sometimes they drive together for a while. The less Saabs in the country, the more the habit. It's visible all the time.

There are not many brands, where the drivers are doing this. Sometimes Hondas or older BMWs. Not too many others. The reason is commoditisation of many things incl. cars which let this nice habit slowly fade away. It's a pity.

Have you seen the Saab versus advertisement campaign ? I like it a lot. Therefore I've tried to do my own version of it. Not so clean, not so professional but still authentic. The photo is from a convoy in summer 2011 to a large Saab event in the Czech Republic (Roudnice). Taken by Kerim from saabundergound.cz. The black convertible is mine. It was an 8 cars convoy to Prague, where another 30-40 cars were regrouping. On the event itself around 200 cars were present. You can read more here.

Hopefully i didn't broke any copyrights or something like that, it wasn't my intention. I hope you like it.

Saab vs. Fellowship

Saab enamel mug

I've found in the streets of Amsterdam an interesting shop selling enamel things. They look a bit vintage and has a potential with the time to get even more old feeling. I've bought a Saab mug, but in the shop were also thermometers and other stuff. Not cheap but unique.

The shop is called Emaille.nl, they have a webshop as well. I've seen there 2 sizes of Saab thermometers. They are not in the shoplist at the moment but if someone is keen to get them, an e-mail to Emaille is worth a try.

My mug (was the last in the stock at that day) :

Saab 9-3 convertible print ads

I've found some "food for the eyes". These ads are a bit older but different from what we use to see these days.
