Two retro Saab videos

Saab_Crash from Vibenius on Vimeo.

Saab_Lights from Vibenius on Vimeo.

Two nice videos appeared recently on Vimeo. Both are old commercials. The first one probably wouldn't be usable, due it's comparative nature, which isn't allowed in some countries. But it doesn't matter now. Both are little time machines into the past when things were very different.

Photography

From time to time extra high quality Saab photos appears online. There are not many people which can do such a gorgeous pictures. This time it's Adrian Burt, a swedish photographer. You can see more on his website.

There are not only Saabs and not only cars, but many things, most of them very eye catchy. Most of them are photos, such as the picture above, but the site contains also CGIs such as the one below.

Really nice.

380 km on roads like this. Summer. Convertible. Yummy.

Another example
A small but very comfortable Saab meeting. A couple of friends...
As every year, the pub is always very stylish. And the beer was great. Small brewery, no eurobeer.
The seniors with us.
Saab 9000 CDE. A long one. Not often to see. Very likeable.

Back to the roots

It's always great to have some photos hidden somewhere in the darker side of the harddisk. Just for coming back after months or years, to enjoy them. This is one of them.

Technically far from ideal but still it has a lot of atmosphere. A good friend of mine, Eva, a photographer shot it. Just as an experiment. It was a cold March, it's on the parking place on the hill above the village Hainburg an der Donau in Austria. A photo flash is used as light source and some games with shutter times, appertures, ISO and things. This is what left. I like it.

It's already a timestamp from the saabish era.

A possible NEVS new SAAB 9-3 design ?

A really nice discovery was posted to SaabsUnited. A reader was browsing to the website of the designer studio yovinn in Göteborg, where amongst others Matias Cindric, the former Saab chief designer works.

At the doors are pictures with known curves. It's a Saab, no doubt. It's a new picture and it's still at the yovinn website.

NEVS said at Saabfestival, that they will start with a minor facelifted 9-3. It's on the third slide from their presentation. This is a minor facelifted 9-3.

These seems to be two different variants. A four door and a two door maybe ? The front part remembers a bit on the 9-3 Griffin, the two Saabs have a bit different front masks. The rear side is taking the nice 9-5 concept of the wide "red position lights". It looks great.

Nobody told what chassis version would be the NEVS 9-3. Well, here it's clear, however I highly doubt, that they aren't working on a SportCombi version as well.

So is the appearance of the photo a coincidence ? No way, this kind of pictures are never a coincidence, but a nice marketing/PR tool. So if NEVS was too silent, which many fans didn't liked, this could be the answer.

According to NEVS "overdeliver and underpromise" communication strategy, it would mean, they have this 9-3 in an advanced stage already. Well, they have to. If the production should start after summer this year, the car must be close to ready by now.

I like it. It looks nice, it would be a very nice start. But these are illustrations only. Let's see how the reality looks like.

Thumbs up and cross fingers !

btw. if someone from the designer studio is looking at their websites traffic, they must be extremely lucky right now :)

Clean

Someone repaired the isolation of the walls in our garage. The result was a tiny film of dust on cars parking inside. It's gone now .)

Cabrio season as it should be

These days is here in the middle of Europe probably the best convertible season in the year. The summer started, 25-28°C (77-82 Fahrenheit) is the ideal temperature, not too hot, not too cold. Exactly as it should be. It's no sea or ocean here, but the Danube keeps the days and evenings very comfortable.

Things have changing nature. We had at the staircase of my former flat a grafitti saying simply: "up and down", Right now some things are up and some down. It depends on how many things you do and perceive. It's now here this strange mixture of the ups and downs.

Fuzzy-headed from both sides I've decided to do a bit of head refresh, stabilise the too many thoughts and emotions. With a convertible ride of course, in this weather a no-brainer. Through the drive some nice moments appeared.

Some pictures, photographed simply through my sunglasses.

Ferry through Danube. Someone decided 20 years ago, that a free ferry for many years is cheaper than a bridge. OK :)
Sunflowers around the road.

Saabfestival 2013

About 1500 cars and 10-12.000 people is the rough estimation for this years Saabfestival in Trollhattan. Origin : all around Europe, some people from U.S., Canada and China. And reportedly, there were more people from outside of Sweden than locals.

The festival had great luck for weather. Sunny, the ideal 25°C for a convertible top down. In contrast to the rest of Europe fighting with heavy floods.

A very positive atmosphere all around the place. Smiling people. A lot of Saabs driving between locations where something happened : 1) the Saab Museum as central point, 2) the ANA shop, service and scrapyard with special prices and 3) the parking place in front of the SAAB factory for a short car test.

Old friends, new friends, many interesting talks and indeed a feeling of a fresh wave of optimism for the future. Well there were reasons for that. NEVS, in addition to its electric story, announced a  facelifted 9-3 with a combustion engine. This is not a really new thing but a still a powerfull message saying it's not the end.

Old, new, tuned, heavily modified Saabs, whatever you can imagine. 300 HP here, 550 there, even 1000 HP. Wonderful small details on many Saabs. You can see some of them on the photos below.

I've counted seven NG 9-5 SportCombis. With numberplates and on the streets. There will appear photos from their photosession sooner or later somewhere on the Internet. Nice.

Coming back to home wasn't easy : 800 km in rain (my rainy record), I had to find alternative routes twice because of some closed roads A huge part of middle Europe, is under water right now. Some of the sceneries around still opened highways were not nice and I can only wish luck to everyone, where the water didn't reached the peaks.

Other photos : part 2 and part 3.

Coming to the Rostock ferry with an excellent timing. 9-5NG Sport Combi, 9-4X and my convertible.

9-3X with the Independence edition wheels looks imho great.
The two belgian Toppolas. Not everydays picture at all.
Andrei (Griffin models) is proudly showing his models. Handmade and for sale. Late evening at the hotel.
